We're off! Stoke get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Premier League game between Stoke City and Manchester United at the Bet365 Stadium.
United are the only Premier League side to still have their 100% record intact, and they’ll be aiming to continue that excellent start to the season here today. Jose Mourinho’s men have looked the real deal since the start of the campaign, comfortably swatting aside West Ham United and Swansea City before working hard to pick up a well-earned victory at home to Leicester City just before the international break.
The Red Devils are yet to let in a single goal - a feat matched only by Huddersfield Town - and have dazzled inside the final third of the pitch. Romelu Lukaku has hit the ground running and already has three league goals to his name, whilst Paul Pogba, unshackled from defensive duties by the signing of Nemanja Matic, is starting to show exactly why United paid so much to bring him back to Old Trafford.
As for Stoke, they narrowly lost 1-0 away to Everton on the opening weekend but did well to fight back with a hard-earned victory against Arsenal in their next outing. The only goal that day was scored by on-loan forward Jese, who has thoroughly impressed since joining the Potters. With Eric Choupo-Moting also now at the club, Mark Hughes will be hoping his men have enough firepower to break down United’s stubborn back line.
Recent meetings between these two sides haven’t been as clear-cut as expected, with United failing to get the better of Stoke on the last two occasions. Both of those games ended in 1-1 draws, and the last victory to come at the Bet365 actually went the Potters’ way thanks to an impressive 2-0 win on Boxing Day 2015. It’s now nearly four and a half years since United won a league game in this part of Staffordshire.
There’s just under 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up today…
Manchester United substitutes: Romero, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Lingard, Mata, Martial.
Manchester United XI (4-3-3): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Darmian; Herrera, Matic, Pogba; Mkhitaryan, Lukaku, Rashford.
Stoke City substitutes: Grant, Tymon, Martins Indi, Adam, Sobhi, Berahino.
Stoke City XI (3-4-3): Butland; Zouma, Wimmer, Cameron; Diouf, Fletcher, Allen, Pieters; Shaqiri, Choupo-Moting, Jese.
Mark Hughes has decided to make two changes to the Stoke side that started the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion just before the international break, with the most notable inclusion being new signing Kevin Wimmer, who replaces the injured captain Ryan Shawcross at the back. Elsewhere, Mame Biram Diouf has come into the starting line-up to replace Bruno Martins Indi.
Meanwhile, United boss Jose Mourinho has made three alterations to the team that featured in their last outing, with Daley Blind, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial making way for Matteo Darmian, Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: STOKE CITY 1-1 MANCHESTER UNITED
It looked as if Stoke were going to be able to head into the half-time break with a well-earned one-goal lead, but United managed to fight back immediately and saved themselves what could have been a scary team talk from Jose Mourinho. The visitors have looked slightly flat up front, despite bossing possession, with Lukaku struggling to get into the game. Rashford has arguably been the best of their forwards, and it was fitting that the equaliser came from him - despite him knowing little about it.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: STOKE CITY 2-2 MANCHESTER UNTIED
Stoke battled hard throughout this evening's game, and they did well to come away with a well-earned draw. They found themselves on the back foot for much of the contest, but they impressed up front when needed, with Choupo-Moting undoubtedly the star of the show. The draw will be a frustrating one for United, who huffed and puffed but couldn't quite find that all-important third goal.
