We're underway at Old Trafford.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Everton at Old Trafford.
It's a clash of old players as Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney face off against their former clubs. Rooney became United's all-time leading goal-scorer last season when he broke Sir Bobby Charlton's feat of 249 strikes.
He returns to Old Trafford for the first time since moving back to his boyhood club in the summer. Lukaku did not quite have the same impact as Rooney during his days with Everton. However, he was the club's top scorer in all four of his seasons at Goodison Park. The Belgian will be looking to continue his strong start to life with the Red Devils against his former team.
United have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and are unbeaten in all competitions. Their 2-2 draw against Stoke City last time out in the Premier League is their only blemish thus far. Jose Mourinho's men kicked off their Champions League campaign during the week with an easy win over Basel on home soil.
The Toffees enjoyed a bright start to the season by beating Everton, but since drawing with Manchester City on the road it has been all downhill. Ronald Koeman's side lost 20 against Chelsea before being soundly beaten by Tottenham at Goodison Park in their last Premier League outing. They were hammered by Atalanta in their Europa League opener on the road, putting pressure on the Dutchman for a result this afternoon.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young; Matic, Fellaini; Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford; Lukaku.
United subs: Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Herrera, Carrick, Lingard, Martial.
United have made three changes from their draw against Stoke last time out in the Premier League. Paul Pogba's injury sees Marouane Fellaini come into the midfield, while Juan Mata comes into the midfield. Ashley Young starts at left-back this afternoon.
After missing the defeat to Atalanta Jordan Pickford comes back between the sticks, retaining his place in Koeman's Premier League starting line-up. There are two changes from the team that was beaten by Spurs as Phil Jagielka and Tom Davies come into the fold as the Dutchman operates with a back three.
FLASHBACK! United needed a Zlatan Ibrahimovic stoppage-time penalty to salvage a point in this fixture last season. Jagielka had put the Toffees ahead, but Williams' handball late in the game presented the opening for the Swede to score from the spot and he did just that to secure the draw for Mourinho's men.
STAT ATTACK! United have lost just one of their last 24 Premier League matches at home against Everton, winning 18 of the contests.
STAT ATTACK! Mourinho has faced Koeman more times without winning (5) than any other manager in the Premier League.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 EVERTON
Antonio Valencia's stunning strike has handed Manchester United the lead at the break against Everton. The full-back drilled his half-volley into the top corner in the fourth minute to get his side off to the perfect start. However, the Red Devils have been unable to press home their advantage as Romelu Lukaku missed a simple chance. At the other end Everton have had brief moments, but nowhere close enough to get back into the game.
The players are back out for the second half, so we should be underway again shortly.
FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 4-0 EVERTON
Manchester United win emphatically at home for the fourth game on the bounce, joining Manchester City back at the top of the Premier League. Antonio Valencia's stunner got them going in the fourth minute. Jose Mourinho's men were forced to dig in against Everton's resistance and David de Gea was called into action more than once to keep the scores level. However, the Red Devils upped the ante towards the end of the contest and goals from Henrik Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku - against his former club - and Anthony Martial secured the three points. Ronaldo Koeman's side lose again by a comfortable margin, with the club now dropping into the bottom three. The pressure is now on the Dutchman to turn things around quickly.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
