Di Maria delivers the corner and almost finds the net, fizzing an effort across the face of goal. Gurtner was scrambling.
A late coming together as Dani Alves and Cissokho square up. The referee is quickly on the scene.
90' +3
Corner to PSG, but it could have been a third goal! Dani Alves wriggles clear on the right and teases a pass through for Di Maria. He looks to square to compatriot Pastore, but a recovering defender knocks the ball behind.
90' +1
CLOSE! El Hajjam thumps high and wide, or so it seems, but as the stanchion takes a whack, with Areola well beaten, it appears his effort was deceptively close. Amiens will not get their goal today.
90'
Dani Alves, in the 90th minute, still has the energy to get back and make a smart challenge at the byline. He's got four more minutes of additional time to keep working through.
88'
A third for PSG looks more likely than an Amiens consolation, but Goncalo Guedes is unable to bring the ball under his spell in the area.
86'
Gonçalo Guedes enters the game and replaces E. Cavani.
SUB! That's Cavani's last involvement and Goncalo Guedes is on.
85'
SAVE! Cavani should score! Pastore scoops a gorgeous pass through to the forward, who controls the ball far too close to Gurtner. Cavani is unable to reach a second touch as the goalkeeper claims.
83'
Now, PSG, no longer in need of a goal, can slow the game down. Rabiot is threading passes through the visiting midfield. Amiens have worked hard, but, predictably, they are going to come up short.
80'
J. Pastore has scored a goal for PSG! Assist by E. Cavani.
The game has been hindered by sloppiness in the last few minutes and Cissokho's touch lets him down just as he looks to dash in behind Dani Alves. Amiens are running out of time.
GOAL! And just like that, Pastore and PSG kill off the visitors! The Argentine sweeps into an empty net, with Matuidi following in, and the hosts secure victory. 2-0.
Cavani turned provider with an unselfish ball into Pastore's path, but this goal was all about another sumptuous Verratti pass to set the Uruguay international away. Amiens were cut apart by PSG's star performer - for today at least.
Minute
Description
77'
B. Labeau enters the game and replaces S. Koita.
SUB! Brighton Labeau relieves Koita of his duties for today.
76'
SAVE! By contrast, Cavani is front and centre when Pastore crosses. Gurtner does well again, though, to smother the low shot.
75'
PSG get men forward, then lose out when Verratti flicks waywardly and Amiens look to break. Cissokho hits the byline to cross, but none of his team mates have kept up with his progress. Areola is all alone to claim.
74'
The pace of the game has just slowed a little with Amiens struggling to muster the energy to respond to PSG's lead. The hosts, meanwhile, cannot create a second.
71'
Fine defending from Prince to block off Cavani just as the goalscorer looked to have brought Verratti's pass under his spell. The Italy international continues to work the visiting defence.
69'
E. Bourgaud enters the game and replaces H. Manzala.
G. Fofana gets yellow.
YELLOW! Finally, a first card. Fofana takes it for clattering Matuidi.
SUB! That is Manzala's last action as Emmanuel Bourgaud comes on.
68'
CHANCE! And Amiens almost have their goal! Manzala picks out Cherrier at the back post, but he cannot control his volley to turn the ball back on target.
Gurtner has been so crucial today for Amiens, again coming off his line and cutting out a Kurzawa cross. If the visitors are to claim an unlikely point, they must thank their keeper.
67'
B. Matuidi enters the game and replaces T. Motta.
SUB! Motta, wearing the captain's armband since Thiago Silva's withdrawal, passes the honour on to Matuidi, his own replacement.
66'
Good goalkeeping again from Gurtner. Verratti looks for Cavani in behind and the goalkeeper claws clear when a defensive header fails to do the job.
65'
SAVE! Areola is tested properly now. Koita cuts inside from the left and blasts hard and low. The goalkeeper clings on.
64'
Marquinhos is so close to meeting Di Maria's corner after a nice move through the PSG front three, but Amiens instead take possession on the far side.
63'
And Amiens almost profit! Areola has to advance quickly from his line to beat Koita to a teasing through ball.
Back come PSG again. Di Maria, clearly now fit, attempts a cross to Cavani. Gurtner steps in once more.
62'
Verratti again takes possession in a dangerous position just outside of the area, but this time opts to go alone rather than pass. Cissokho snaps into a challenge and Amiens look to counter.
61'
Di Maria is now receiving treatment after a late challenge. He is back on his feet, but still appears to be in some discomfort.
59'
CHANCE! Oh, what a miss! Much better combination play this time as Verratti feeds Cavani to tee up Di Maria. The winger, clean through on goal, lifts a delicate finish over Gurtner but wide of the target.
58'
PSG still have not really found their rhythm in the final third. Pastore attempts a cute pass to Cavani, who had long since given up on making a run to coincide with that ball.
57'
C. Charrier enters the game and replaces T. Ndombélé.
SUB! NDombele Alvaro, seemingly carrying a knock, takes his time to make way for Charly Charrier.
54'
SAVE! What a goal that would have been! Gurtner does brilliantly to repel Di Maria's stinging first-time volley from a long pass in behind. Great effort, great save. The ball, obviously, came from Verratti.
53'
Referee Mikael Lesage seems determined to keep his cards in his pocket, which is fortunate for El Hajjam as he tears down Kurzawa in full flow.
52'
CLOSE! Verratti's at it again! Another measured pass allows Kurzawa to cross - and Adenon, in ahead of Cavani, turns the ball just wide of his own left-hand post.
51'
Magnificent from Verratti! A typically sublime pass sets Dani Alves away on the right, but his cross cannot reach Cavani as Gurtner intercepts.
49'
PSG are just slacking a little with the final ball. A fine Dani Alves pass prompts an attack, but Rabiot, Verratti and Kurzawa cannot combine to take the ball into the area.
47'
A bright start to the second half from Pastore, tearing away from Monconduit, who recovers to combine with Prince in committing a foul on the PSG man. Amiens will be keen to prevent the hosts from getting straight back into their stride.
46'
P. Kimpembe enters the game and replaces Thiago Silva.
KICK-OFF: Away we go again. PSG get us back under way.
SUB! A knock for the skipper? Thiago Silva makes way for Presnel Kimpembe.
45' +1
HALF-TIME: PSG 1-0 Amiens.
45'
Fofana gets his head to Monconduit's set-piece, but, as with Amiens' other efforts, it is tame and harmless. Areola gathers.
44'
Amiens had fought so bravely to make a game of this, but they need a goal now. Koita wins a free-kick inside the PSG half.
42'
E. Cavani has scored a goal for PSG! Assist by Dani Alves.
GOAL! Cavani's up and running for a new season! Composure? Oh yes. He traps a cross from the right, drags the ball past a defender and coolly finishes into the bottom-right corner. Neymar is on his feet in the stands. 1-0.
Dani Alves provides the assist. Of course. Who else? It's a fine cross onto Cavani's toe.
40'
CHANCE! Great defending, but PSG should really score! A speedy counter sees Pastore set Di Maria away, but he opts to pass across goal instead of shooting. Prince recovers to hack away from the goal line. It's end-to-end right now.
Jeers as Pastore is denied a free-kick, but Amiens are hoping to make the most of PSG's desperation for a first-half goal. The hosts quickly regain their composure, though.
38'
Kurzawa gets his head to another ball, somehow advanced far beyond Cavani, but loops Verratti's ambitious pass into Gurtner's grateful clutches.
37'
PSG are far too hesitant in and around the box. Rabiot has an age to get a shot away, after a corner, but moves the ball on. Another deflection, another set-piece.
CLOSE! PSG go direct and nearly score. Layvin Kurzawa meets the cross from the left and flicks a header across the face of goal.
35'
SAVE! Amiens are so quick to get the bodies back, but they give the ball away again after recovering. Rabiot shoots hard and low, Regis Gurtner dives to make the save.
34'
Well, Areola takes the cross. As easy as you like. PSG break.
33'
Corner to Amiens! And it's Manzala again who has PSG backpeddling. Dani Alves dives in to give up the set-piece.
31'
Manzala does well to steal the ball and set off in attack, but, quickly realising he is all alone in the PSG half, a tame prod at goal from around 45 yards out gives the ball to Areola. The hosts start again.
30'
PSG might have expected to have broken the deadlock by now, but it is Amiens who are growing into the game. Still no genuine openings, but they are pushing the Parisians back the other way.
29'
A chance? Not really, but Cissokho climbs above Dani Alves to meet a right-wing cross. Unfortunately for the visitors, the header drops harmlessly well wide.
28'
Cavani works so hard to win the ball in the Amiens box, but his pass back to Verratti on the edge of the area is then slack. Thiago Motta's foul on Thomas Monconduit, quicker to the ball, brings the move to an end.
27'
A fine header from Prince keeps Verratti's lofted pass from reaching an advancing Pastore in behind. Amiens, while offering little in attack, continue to hold on.
26'
Apologies from Dani Alves as, from Di Maria's lovely, disguised pass, he blazes a cross over the top in a good position.
24'
BLOCK! Cheap, so cheap, from Khaled Adenon to allow Cavani to tee up rabiot. Prince charges back to block. Amiens cannot afford errors like that.
23'
Di Maria is busy for the hosts. Like defensive cover Dani Alves, he is drifting from the touch-line to get involved. In the visitors' white, NDombele Alvaro has been the most impressive player thus far.
22'
BLOCK! PSG force a corner on the left and a deep delivery to Marquinhos allows the centre-back another effort. Again, however, his hammer of a shot is closed down. Amiens stay resolute.
21'
And Dani Alves is back to do his defensive work, too, harrying Manzala and slowing Amiens' progress. The Brazilian has settled quickly in Paris.
20'
PSG are passing the ball with wonderful fluency now. Dani Alves, pushing on and darting inside, is heavily involved, but it's Marquinhos who thunders a strike into a defender.
18'
POST! And PSG are so nearly ahead! Dani Alves' shot, from a corner routine, deflects through to Rabiot at the back post. Unmarked and with the goalkeeper grounded, he nods against the outside of the post. What a chance.
17'
APPEAL! PSG want a penalty as Cissokho appears to handle twice in his own area, but the hosts only have themselves to blame for a missed opportunity as Cavani, Verratti and Rabiot link up well before each refusing to shoot.
Harrison Manzala shows his agility this time, shifting onto his left foot and taking on Dani Alves. The PSG man has Marquinhos back to help him out, though.
16'
Strong play from NDombele Alvaro to wrestle the ball from Cavani and send Cissokho away to cross, but PSG clear comfortably.
14'
PSG have the ball in the net, but Cavani is clearly offside from Rabiot's pass as he allows Di Maria to sidefoot home. The Argentina international had been clattered moments earlier as Issa Cissokho took unkindly to a rabona pass.
12'
Lovely interplay between Dani Alves and Cavani almost creates an opening for the latter, but Amiens scramble clear. Another smart Dani Alves pass, this time to Pastore, almost tees up another chance.
11'
A very, very optimistic effort from Guessouma Fofana represents Amiens' first attempt, but it sails several yards wide.
9'
It is a little congested in the middle of midfield and, as Amiens look to move the ball backwards instead, Cavani is predictably hot on the visitors' heels. That energy is still there this season.
7'
It is all PSG right now, but Amiens hold firm from the latest attack. This could be a long, long 90 minutes for the visitors.
6'
CLOSE! Di Maria and Cavani combine again - and the latter really should score. He rifles past the right-hand post instead. Neymar watches on.
5'
AND AGAIN! From a similar position, Edinson Cavani smashes clear of the crossbar. Di Maria's lovely touch, from Marquinhos' pass, had created that opening.
3'
OVER! It is Pastore's turn to show a turn of pace, winning a throw-in on the right, and that leads to a shooting opportunity for Marco Verratti. His effort is way over the top.
2'
The visitors pinch the ball and Tanguy NDombele Alvaro looks to send Oualid El Hajjam scampering in behind on the right. The pass is short, though, and PSG can move forward again.
1'
Amiens knocked the ball long from the kick-off and, inside the opening minute, PSG have control.
KICK-OFF: Seybou Koita is the first Amiens player to kick a Ligue 1 ball and we are under way!
Of course there's time for a quick showcase of Neymar's skills. PSG will see plenty more of those this season, even if he is absent today.
Neymar can hardly stop smiling as he fields questions from the others on the stage. He's the main man here, alright. And, finally, the superstar poses for a picture with the president.
"Merci." He speaks. And there are huge cheers.
Now, Neymar, who looks like he is to address the crowd, waves as the fans race through a quickly assembled song book. There are screams in support of both the player and his native Brazil.
There are handshakes for everyone and Neymar, dressed in Paris' blue and red, grins before giving those supports yet another chance to chant his name. Somehow, the volume level has been notched up again.
NEYMAR! And here he is! Deafening roars from the stands welcome PSG's newest hero.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is here now, ready to greet Neymar onto the pitch.
Solveig is thanked for his role in the party. It's time, at last...
And still we wait! Who knows what poor Amiens are making of this.
"Neymar, Neymar," chants Solveig and back comes the response. The fans are certainly ready...
Is he finally on his way? PSG are pumping their promotional Neymar video through the big screen. "I just came to say hello," says the music. Unfortunately, it looks like that will be the case for the new boy today.
The Parc des Princes is rocking. Solveig is dancing at the moment, but there is only so long he will be able to keep the fans at bay before Neymar steps out...
Still no sign of Neymar just yet as the PSG fans ramp up their chanting to drown out the music...
Some supporters are dancing. Others are posing for pictures and waving to the television cameras. It's a day of celebration in Paris, with the game later on feeling - at this stage - like an afterthought.
Those expectant fans certainly look to be in good spirits. Neymar is set to greet his public at quarter to the hour.
Incidentally, Solveig is adorning the number #27 on his back - a shirt that will now be worn by Javier Pastore, who gave up #10 for Neymar.
Martin Solveig has been performing - in a personalised PSG shirt - at the stadium in the last 20 minutes, meanwhile, as supporters take their places early in anticipation of the appearance of their new man.
However, the game has still been put back to allow time for Neymar to take to the pitch in the next 10 minutes or so. Kick-off is still over an hour-and-a-half away.
A party atmosphere welcomed Neymar to his new home yesterday and the supporters had hoped to see him in action for the first time in a PSG shirt today, but a reported administrative delay looks to have put paid to that. That will come as a disappointment to the player, too, who had also stated his desire to get started as soon as possible.
Yes, Neymar, who completed a world-record move to the French capital from Barcelona earlier this week, is here as his PSG team mates kick-off the new campaign.
Hello and welcome to Paris Saint-Germain versus Amiens from the Parc des Princes on the opening weekend of the Ligue 1 season - and a certain Brazilian is in the house!
A lap of the pitch follows. Smiles and waves, raised hands and thumbs. Ball after ball is dispatched from Neymar's magic right boot into the assembled crowd.
Neymar pauses in front of the most passionate section of the PSG support, who continue to belt out Samba-style ditties.
And, with around 40 minutes until kick-off, let's get the team news...
The suggestion is that PSG will now, of course, aim for a maiden Champions League trophy with Neymar in their ranks, but they must also look to wrestle back the Ligue 1 title from Monaco. The early signs are promising, with Unai Emery's men seeing off the champions in last weekend's Trophee des Champions clash.
And there he goes. Now, isn't there a football match today? The players are yet to make it out onto the pitch to warm-up, with kick-off scheduled for 50 minutes' time...
More pictures and now the shirt is off, too. That, like the balls, is launched into the crowd. As fans scrap for a sensational piece of memorabilia, Neymar heads back towards the tunnel.
Emery makes just the one change from the side that beat Monaco 2-1 then, with Angel di Maria coming in for Thomas Meunier. Dani Alves makes his league debut in a team that retains a large Brazilian influence, despite Neymar's absence.
For Amiens, meanwhile, Mathieu Bodmer lines up against his former side. Both teams are now warming up.
Even without Neymar on the pitch, Amiens, playing in Ligue 1 for the first time after their incredibly dramatic promotion late last term, might just have their work cut out today...
PSG do not have a great record in season openers, winning just three of their last 11. On paper, though, this could well be their easiest game of the campaign - and they have not lost at home in the league for well over a year.
The sides' last meeting, in a Coupe de France semi-final in 2008, went the way of PSG. The capital club finished a lowly 16th in the top tier that season, though - how times have changed!
This could well be a walk in the park for PSG today, but there is motivation for a number of players. While Alphonse Areola and Adrien Rabiot are, respectively, holding off competition from Kevin Trapp and Blaise Matuidi, the front line will know Neymar's arrival puts their places under pressure too.
Some fans have been in the Parc des Princes for almost two hours already - and there are still a few minutes to go before kick-off in front of an expectant crowd. Can PSG ensure the party extends long into the night?
Here come the teams! Kick-off is just a couple of minutes away.
In the stands, there's a red, white and blue display. Others are holding scarves aloft. The feel-food factor shows no sign of dissipating!
The players are gathering in the tunnel. We're almost there, at long last...
After the Lord Neymar's show? It seemed that way for a while. PSG struggled to get going until, shortly before half-time, Cavani's fine finish secured a lead heading into the break.
Rabiot had earlier hit the post and forced a save from Gurtner. That latter effort had been PSG's only effort on target prior to the goal, however. Amiens have mustered three attempts but failed to work Areola.
Here come the teams once more! PSG will surely be looking to accelerate out of sight in this second half.
The glitz and glamour came before kick-off in the form of Neymar, but PSG, for the timebeing at least, replace champions Monaco at the top of the table.
And that's all from Paris! PSG will now prepare for Neymar's debut next week, while supporters can reflect on a day of celebration. Thanks for joining us and, until next time, goodbye!
Cavani and Pastore grabbed the goals, but Verratti and Dani Alves were the star men for PSG. Amiens worked hard but never really threatened to halt the hosts.
